What does it all mean
Pixel dimensions can only be changed if resample image is selected. Allows you to change the actual file size.
Bicubic smoother best option for resampling.
What does it all mean
Document size and resolution.This gives the output size. If resample image is not selected it can be used to specify the output size for printing, the resolution will change as the output size changes.
If resample image is selected the resolution can stay the same or change when the image size changes.
What does it all mean
Scale styles only applies if you have layers with styles applied.
Constrain proportions is nearly always required as it prevents distortion of the aspect ration of the picture.
Improving composition
When cropping box can be free form or specified ratio
Using the width and height
This can be used to keep aspect ratio the same as the original picture
It can also be used to create a crop to match a specific output size
For example 800 x 600 screen, 6x4 inch print 7x5 inch print.
Typical Aspect Ratios
Compact 4x3 Print sizes 4x3 8x6 12x9
Slr 3x2 Print sizes 3x2 6x4 9x6 12x8 15x10
Common print size 6x4 means cropping for compact
Common print size 7x5 means cropping for both formats
Straightening a picture
Select an area to correct
Move cursor outside selection and rotate selection
Then crop
Correcting perspective
Select area of picture to use
Check perspective box and move edges to align with verticals
Then crop
You may need to use image size and uncheck constrain proportions to correct result
